God is My Anchor

Gajendra’s story from the 8th canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam about how he feels the presence of Krishna in the most difficult and dangerous moment of his life is something for us find hope and inspiration from. How he anchors himself in that relationship and gains immunity from the pain felt while still being in danger by material standards! He is our hero from Srimad Bhagavatam!

We can relate with him about how none of his securities and shelters could come to his rescue at the time of greatest need in his life. His personal physical strength, his abilities, his power, influence, prestige, his family, his friends and his children none of them were powerful enough against the force of time which is Krishna’s energy. After a 1000 years of fighting, when he pauses to assess the situation he realizes that only the Lord can help him and that he must surrender unto him. We can find Gajendra in our selves. Using our resources in fighting out situations for many many years.

If we pause like Gajendra and spend sometime thinking about our response and the outcome so far, we will realize like him that we are actually not getting anywhere and we need to cry out for the shelter of the infallible Lord, develop a relationship with the permanent eternal Lord. He is bhakta vatsala – the protector of His devotees!
